Both bedrooms have very strange crown moulding. There was a standard piece of crown moulding attached just to the wall under an older style of crown moulding. To make it even stranger, the sheet rock stops under the old piece of crown moulding. My best guess is that someone put up sheet rock over the original plaster walls. I ripped down the lower crown moulding and will put up new at the proper 45 degree angle (or maybe a bit less) after the wall paint is on. This should cover the older piece that is still there and give a clean finished look.
